CITur is an international R&D group linked to the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences at the Universitat de València, Spain. Currently coordinated by Dr. Rosanna Mestre Pérez, its research focuses on the analysis of the various interactions between Cinema, Tourism and Social Imaginary, paying special attention to the Spanish case. The group is made up of researchers from different academic fields, the Universitat de València (Spain), Marquette University in Milwaukee (USA), Darmouth College in New Hampshire (USA), the Universitat de Lleida (Spain), the Université Gustave Eiffel de Paris (France), the University of Seville (Spain) and the Universitat Jaume I (Spain).

CITur was created in 2005 by Dr. Antonia del Rey Reguillo and began its activity with the project La imagen de España como destino turístico construida a través del cine (Ref. GV114/05). This was followed by La interacción entre el cine español y el turismo: desarrollo histórico-temático; claves culturales, políticas y económicas (Ref. HAR2011-27750) and Los espacios del cine español como factor de promoción turística del patrimonio geográfico y cultural autóctonos (Ref. HAR2016-77734-P). CITur is currently initiating a new project coordinated with the TRAMA group of the University of Lleida, Análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de los factores de la ficción audiovisual que inducen el turismo, y de sus efectos en las audiencias y los potenciales turistas (Ref. PID2020-112668GB-I00). In its research work, CITur uses a plural methodology that integrates strategies from film history and theory, textual analysis, sociology of tourism, cultural studies and quantitative data analysis techniques.
